The Basics of Pin Connectors

A Pin Connector is a mechanical connection between two solid bodies or shell bodies. The selection entities can be circular edges or cylindrical faces. The Pin connector is a very stiff beam with both ends situated in the centre of its cylindrical face and connected by perfectly rigid bars. The stiffness of the pin is not represented by material properties. This article will discuss some of the basic concepts that define Pin Connectors and provide a basic understanding of how they work.

Stage Pin Connectors

Stage Pin Connectors, also known as grounded stage pins, are the standard for theatrical lighting cables in many countries, including North America. This type of connector is standardized across many countries to provide the highest quality signal to and from the lighting fixtures. For this reason, it is often used for lighting and sound equipment. However, there are some important differences between grounded and unground stage pins. Listed below are the differences between the two.

First, consider what each stage pin connector is made of. The smallest stage pin connector is rated at 20 A, which is equivalent to 2.4 kW of current at 120 V. The NEMA 5-15 connector, on the other hand, is rated at 15 A, corresponding to about 1.8 kW of current. However, this still falls short of what is needed for the high-end stages. That means that a new stage pin connector will be less expensive than a replacement Edison connector.

Another major difference between Bates connectors and Stage pins is the amperage. The Bates connector was created in the 1920s, but it remained a novelty outside of Hollywood until the 1990s. Today, it is one of the most widely used stage pins, primarily used in on-location video shoots using high-power Fresnel’s. It is also known as the Grounded Stage Pin or Two Pin and Ground connector.

Amphenol FCI Clincher Connectors

Amphenol FCI Clincher connectors are flat, flexible cable terminations that connect to a standard pin header. A Clincher connector is simply closed by pressing a button. The teeth of the connector "clinch" around the conductors and break out to two female 0.1" spaced pin headers. They're an easy, quick way to connect cables and terminated equipment. This article will explain their basic use and benefits.

The FCI Clincher (TM) series of connectors are designed with features that improve reliability. Its "Clinch" cable termination process results in contamination and gas-tight connection. It also utilizes the proven Mini PV contact design, which preloads the connector's contacts. Mass termination of the Clincher connector also reduces costs and speeds up cable assembly processes.

Amphenol FCI Clincher

The Amphenol FCI Clincher pin connector is a standard 2.54mm pitch, single-row pin-and-receptacle connector designed for termination to flat, flexible circuitry. The connectors feature keying and latching options, making them a great choice for more applications than you might think. And with the ability to use different types of sensors, the connectors can easily be configured to fit your specific needs.
